Notes for Judges

_SPEECH Judges, because this is districts, this is the one tournament where critiques on ballots are optional. You are still welcome to write a little something if you would like, but it is not mandatory.

_DEBATE Judges, because this is districts, while yes critiques are also optional for you, it is still required that you at least write a "Reason for Decision" statement, clearly indicating either why the person you chose won the round or why the person lost the round. You must have a statement that clearly indicates that before submitting your Win/Loss and speaker points.

_ALL Judges, having ranks in as soon as possible after the round concludes will help greatly with flow of the tournament. Of course while I say that, please also take the time to double check that you are giving the right person the right rank / score / points, etc...

_SPEECH Judges, there will be a minimum of 4 prelim rounds in Speech events throughout the day. Each round will have 2 judges in it. PLEASE, do not begin the round until the second judge has arrived. This could be a major problem if this happens.

_SPEECH Judges, when I say a minimum of 4 prelims, that means there is the potential for "RunOffs" to occur in some speech events. A RunOff is not a final round, but instead a round between two kids who's scores formed an unbreakable tie. The RunOff consists of just the two of them facing off in the round with a large panel of clean unbiassed judges who will rank accordingly. The winner of the round qualifies to States. The loser does not. I pray that this never happens to a kid and that a judge never has to be plugged for it. But it does happen, so be prepared, and please do not leave after prelims conclude.

_DEBATE Judges, there will also be 4 prelim rounds. Just one judge per round. No RunOffs in LD or PF. Keep in mind that PF has a new topic for February. Scroll down to see.

_ALL Judges, some of you who are well rounded in the judging field, may not be labeled in a particular judge pool (Ex: Speech, Debate, Congress), but instead will be labeled as an "Everything" judge. This means you have the potential to bounce between judging a Speech event and LD or PF. But only those marked as "Everything". Scroll down to find out your status.

_ALL Judges, please keep in mind the high pressure and anxiety this tournament brings to students. Please be understanding, empathetic, and encouraging to the kids you see and judge during the day.
