This is a great category for beginners at speech and debate who aren’t really sure where they fit in category wise.  Speakers in declamation are given an original oratory speech or a speech from another source (ted talks) that is condensed to ten minutes.  This category focuses more on how one presents the speech as opposed to the content in the speech.

However, the content in the speech should be considered before choosing it.  Naturally, a really funny speech or a really moving speech will help the speaker be successful in this category.  Declamation involves a lot of work in interpretation as opposed to working on the content of the speech.  This category is a great Segway into original oratory!
