This category requires the speaker to write a ten minute speech that can vary in topic. The speech is generally persuasive and typically covers an abstract issue that is addressed and given a solution through different areas of analysis. Through research and original ideas, the speaker is able to make a statement about something they truly believe in. You're given a lot of freedom in this category when it comes to what topic you cover and how you present it. Many original speeches include a personal story relevant to the topic that can enhance the emotion of the speech. You aren’t required to tell a story or a personal message, but it can be a way for you to tell your own or someone else's story. The speaker should aim to have a natural delivery and use emotion and humor to engage the audience in their topic. Overall, this speech is meant to move, inspire, educate, and persuade the audience.
